John F. Benes (Jack) 74, of Cranford, N.J., passed away January 1, 2018 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center, New Brunswick, with his loving family by his side. John was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, working security for the Air Force during the Cuban Crisis. He enjoyed many things in life like rooting for his favorite sports team the NJ Devils and ​when his children were young, ​coaching little league baseball teams​ in Cranford, NJ. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his dear wife Jeanie ​up at their ​Culver Lake home​ in ​Sussex County but most importantly being with family was what meant the world to him.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jeanie Ann Benes, loving children, James Benes and his wife Christy of Middlesex, NJ; Jeffery Benes and his wife Donna of Cranford, NJ; Jessica Ellam and husband Peter of Hazlet, NJ; three siblings, Donald Benes and wife Betty of Morris Plains, NJ; Kenneth Benes of Old Bridge; Donna Coster of Virginia; and dear grandchildren Molly and Mathew Ellam, Samantha​ and Brianna Benes. He will be truly​ ​missed by all.

A Memorial Mass in honor of John will take place Saturday, January 20th at 10:30 AM at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 119 Forest Avenue, Cranford, NJ. (Please see the “Service Details” tab at the top of the obituary for more information and printable directions)

​John selflessly donated his body for Leukemia research. ​Cremation will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Guardian Trade Service, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, NJ 08879. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 (Link Below)
