Giovanni Vazquez, Sr.

July 7, 1950 — April 29, 2022

Giovanni Vazquez, Sr.

Giovanni “Jim” Vazquez, Sr. of Monmouth Junction, NJ, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, April 29th, 2022, with his loving family at his side. He was 71.

Jim was born in 1950 to Ernesto and Laura Vazquez in the Bronx, New York. Jim and his family moved to New Jersey where he would meet his loving partner of over 45 years, Marie.

Jim was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 during the Vietnam War. Once he was released from his duties, he re-enlisted as a reservist to serve in Honduras and trained for Desert Storm. Jim received numerous medals such as the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge.

Jim spent roughly 15 or more years working for the United States Postal Service as a Maintenance Supervisor. After his postal service career, he then worked as a security guard. Although he enjoyed his career, he truly loved spending time with his children, Giovanni, Shawn, and Michelle “Mickey”. He loved to travel and go camping he was a true adventurer. Jim and the family could simply get in the van and go visit someplace new. It was an exciting yet relaxing way to get away and be together with the family.

He also enjoyed many other things, such as baseball and football with the kids. Boxing, early on was certainly one of Jim’s ambitions, perhaps to be one of the greatest! If he wasn’t thinking about boxing, he was dancing. Probably one of the best dancers around, Jim received many awards for his great talents. He also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool and racquet ball. Jim lived such a wonderful, fulfilled life full of exciting things and of course most of all, he was a family man. He is going to be so deeply missed by his family and friends, but he will always remain in our hearts and memories.

Jim is survived by, his partner, Marie of 45 years; sons, Giovanni Vazquez, Jr. and Shawn Vazquez; daughter, Michelle "Mickey"; sister, Sonia Serrano; grandchildren, Elissa, Gabriella, Gianna, Ezekiel, Julian, Mckayla, Seth, Anthony, Brielle and Roman; great grandchildren, Christopher, Anastasia, Sapphire and Hector and many dear friends.

Friends and relatives are invited to, Raritan Bay Funeral Service, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, New Jersey, 08879 on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM for a celebration of Giovanni’s life. Cremation will be private.
